In the recent days we have noticed that people are more inclined towards anonymous browsing just to check their friend's social network contacts and all. Also they want to surf by defying the corporate firewall as well. They use several tools but among all UltraSurf is the one that is used widely in China to bypass governmental censorship . For the one who do not know much about UltraSurf, I will briefly explain it a bit.
UltraSurf allows you to overcome the censorship and blockage on the Internet. You can browse any website freely, so as to obtain true information from the free world. UltraSurf also protects Internet privacy with anonymous surfing and browsing, hide IP addresses and locations, clean browsing history, cookies & more. Even it works great with VPNs. It is a tiny download of 400 KB. Download it and double click on it and it is installed. First time it takes 5-20 seconds to configure itself automatically. It scans the firewall and opens configured internet explorer for you. Now you can surf all blocked websites. Once any user uses it, he/she tends to get hooked to it due to its smart features and ease of access.
Even though it is a good tool to overcome the censorship of the internet at our work place, there are some hidden truth behind it as well. We found significant malware behavior, even mismatched and self-signed certificates and preventing them (user) from seeing a popup about it. Ultrasurf is designed to be a free http proxy tool, and it is somewhat, however this is a cover for it to be a virus / malware that is nearly stealth and undetectable to normal virus scanners because of it's heuristic avoidance and encrypted payloads.
